Abstract

In the 2nd quarter of 2018 economic sentiments of Polish households improved. The IRG SGH consumer confidence indicator (IRGKGD) hit a record high (-2.0 pts), shooting up 4.1 pts. Strong sentiments continue to support the high growth rate of household consumption, which amounted to 4.8% in the 1st quarter of 2018. All components of IRGKGD rose (except for the expected ability to save, which is now much the same it was recorded in the 1st quarter of the year), with the assessments of expected general economic situation grown the most. The smoothed indicator continues its upward trend. Despite good assessments of general state of the economy, however, consumers are cautiously planning major expenditures, and tend to save their surpluses as they believe it is good time to do.(original abstract)
