Abstract

Business situation in the trade sector deteriorated in the 4th quarter of 2023. The IRG SGH trade confidence indicator (IRGTRD) quarterly decreased by 6.4 pts to -9.5 pts. It is 3.4 pts greater than the respective year 2022 figure, and it remains below the fourth-quarters’ average over the last ten years (which amounts to -6.9 pts). General economic situation of traders improved, but their financial standing slightly deteriorated. Traders decreased employment together with domestic and foreign purchases. Firms expect their trading activity to continue deteriorating within the next two quarters.
