Abstract

In November 2017 the industrial confidence indicator (ICIRIED) grew by 0.7 pts to +2.8 pts. It is now 13.3 pts up from the respective last year figure. The results of the November survey are unusual. It happened only once, in 2012, that the indicator increased in November. Typically, ICIRIED declines at this time of a year due to negative seasonal factors. Those were public enterprises only that reduced their business activity this year. Private firms reported a rise in their business performance - the indicator and the main balances (production, total and export orders) calculated for private manufacturers increased. Finished goods inventories dropped as well as the rate of growth of selling prices. Financial position of firms and their opinions about general economic situation in the country worsened. They are pessimistic about their future business prospects. The evolution of the cyclical components of the main balances suggests that the coming slowdown in business activity might not necessarily be of seasonal nature.(original abstract)
