Abstract

April was the sixth month in a row of growing manufacturing activity. The in dustrial confidence indicator (ICI) increased by only 3.7 pts to 1.5 pts, and is now higher than one year earlier by 39.3 pts. The high increase of the indicator on the annual basis is partly the so-called base effect, as in April, 2020 ICI recorded the lowest figure ever. The increase of the indicator was recorded for all groups of manufacturers except for producers of consumer durables and manufacturers operating in the North-West and North regions. Manufacturers reported an increase in production, total and export orders, employment and finished goods inventories. The balance of selling prices hit the record high. Financial situation of firms improved, as well as their assessment of general economic situation in Poland. On the other hand, the capacity utilization rate hit the record low, and the problem of gaining access to raw materials and skilled workforce came to the fore. Never the less, firms are optimistic about their future business prospects, and manufacturing activity is expected to be on the increase.(original abstract)
