Abstract

In the 2nd quarter of 2018 the IRG SGH banking confidence indicator (IRGBAN) increased from 2.6 pts to 13.9 pts. It is now 3.6 pts down from the respective year 2017 figure. The monthly rise of the indicator was caused by an increase in the balance of the result on banking activity. The two other components of the indicator - the balances of employment and profits - negatively contributed to the change of IRGBAN. According to the surveyed banks, they still need to handle serious impediments to their activity. The most significant ones are: tax burden, unstable laws and financial situation of their clients. Nevertheless, banks tend to have a modestly optimistic view on their business prospects, and the confidence indicator is expected to record a slight growth.(original abstract)
