Abstract

In the 1st quarter of 2021 the agricultural confidence indicator (IRGAGR) decreased by 5.1 pts to -10.6 pts. The decline was due to a fall in money income of farmers, which is typical at the time of a year. Changes in all indicators of agricultural activity that are monitored under the survey programme (such as purchases of fertilizers, nutritive fodder and plant protection products, investment in machinery and buildings, among others) were rather minor. Farmers are getting less pessimistic about their near future economic prospects. As the next quarter is usually a period of spring recovery in agricultural activities, and the declining tendency, which began in the mid of 2017, seems to come to an end, an upturn is expected to materialize over the coming months.(original abstract)
