Abstract

In the second quarter of 2023, the IRG SGH construction confidence indicator (CCI) is positive and
equal to 0.8 pts, 15.1 pts up from the previous quarter figure but 2.7 pts down from the respective year
2022 figure. The current economic situation in the construction industry is much worse than on average
in the second quarters of years 2017-2019. Despite the difficulties associated with high prices of
materials, high salary dynamics and servicing liabilities, construction companies try to adapt to the
changing environment. Since the slowdown in housing construction sustains, firms focus on the
construction of logistics centers and warehouses, and look forward to investments for the military and
in the energy sector, including green solutions and low-emissions. Though the main survey balances
remained negative and lower than one year ago there are some signs of recovery coming soon in the
construction industry – the yearly changes of the survey balances have been declining and the
expectations of construction firms are getting more and more optimistic. (original text)
