Abstract
In September 2017 the industrial confidence indicator (ICI RIED) monthly declined by 1.2 pts to +3.2 pts, the figure 4.8 pts up from the respective last year one. The volatility of business situation in the manufacturing industry tends to persist. After one month of improvement industrial activity decreased again. The results of the September survey are ambiguous. Production and total orders grew, and general economic situation in Poland is assessed now better than in August. On the other hand, export orders and employment dropped, and financial situation of firm worsened. Inflation is going up. Similar ambiguity can be observed in firms' expectations - the primary indicators of industrial activity, ie production and total orders, are expected to rise, and, at the same time, producers forecast an employment increase as well as betterment of their financial situation and of the overall economy. Negative seasonal factors are about to determine industrial activity in the coming months, so no improvement should be expected to persist. (original abstract)
