Abstract

January, 2021 was the second month in a row manufacturing activity grew. The increase was effected by augmenting positive cyclical factors. The in dustrial confidence indicator (ICI)rose by 2.3pts, and is now higher than one year earlier by 8.9pts. Manufacturers reported a rise in production and export orders. On the other hand, total orders and employment declined. Finished goods inventories decreased. Financial situation of firms and their assessment of general economic situation in Poland worsened. The balance of the latter hit the lowest level since May, 2020. Though production increased, the capacity utilization rate (56.1%) dropped almost to the figure of the second quarter of 2020 (55.8%), which remains the record low. Selling prices of manufactured goods substantially increased. The surveyed firm s expect manufacturing activity and overall economic activity to continue growing over the next months.
