Abstract

The increase of manufacturing activity in April was short-lasting. In May, 2022 it declined. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) decreased by 5.9 pts, and returned to the Marche level of 2.8 pts. It is now 8.1 pts down from the respective year 2021 figure. The drop in ICI has been recorded for all groups of manufacturers, excluding the largest firms, employing more than 500 persons. Manufacturers reported a decline in production, total and export orders, and employment. Their financial situation deteriorated. Finished goods inventories sharply increased. The producer price level fell. However, firms' opinions about general economic situation in the Polish economy improved again. Nevertheless, manufacturers are pessimistic about their business prospects and economics situation in the country over the next months. They expect economic activity in the industry to slowdown.(original abstract)
