Abstract

In February, 2023 manufacturing activity increased again. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) grew by 2.5 pts to -8.5 pts. Despite the increase, it is 7.9 pts down from the respective year 2022 figure. The improvement in the manufacturing sector is widespread. The only firms which reported a decline are producers of capital goods, manufacturers employing 251-500 persons, and those who operate in Central, South, North and Mazowieckie macroregions. The surveyed firms reported an increase in production (incl. export production), orders (incl. export orders) and finished goods prices. On the other hand, employment dropped, and manufacturers' financial situation and their opinions about general economic situation in Poland worsened. The yearly changes of the indicator and the balances remained negative, however, there are some signs of an upcoming upturn. Producers regained optimism and expect a recovery to consolidate soon(original abstract)
