Abstract

After three consecutive months of sustained growth, in April, 2023 manufacturing activity declined. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) dropped by 3.6 pts to -7.1 pts. It is now 10.2 pts down from the respective year 2022 figure, and 5.0 pts down from the long-term average. Manufacturers reported a decrease in production and (domestic and foreign) orders, and, at the same time, a rise in employment and producer prices. Financial situation of firms improved, as well as their opinions about general economic situation in Poland. Manufacturers are rather optimistic about the nearest future, as they expect the main economic indicators, i.e. production and orders to grow. The April survey results seem rather to be indicative of an adjustment in the growing tendency which is expected to be continuing over the next months(original abstract)
