Abstract

The slump in the agricultural economy which sparked off in the 4th quarter of 2021 continued in the succeeding one. The agriculture confidence index (IRGAGR) further dropped by 11.5 pts to -13.2 pts, which the lowest number since the Great Recession. It is now lower than one year ago by 12.6 pts. Financial situation of farmers substantially diminished. Expenditure on fodder, pesticides and plant protection products declined to record low numbers since 2009. Farmers' propensity to finance production with debt is as low as their confidence in recovery in the coming quarter. (original abstract)
