Abstract

After three consecutive quarters of contraction the 3rd quarter of 2023 brought about a long-expected improvement in farming. The agriculture confidence index (IRGAGR) quarterly grew by 4.7 pts to -21.6 pts. It is, however, still below the respective year 2022 figure (by 4.7 pts). The increase of the indicator was primarily due to a rise in farmers’ sentiments, following the pattern of seasonality in agricultural production, conditioned by the annual periodical rhythm of vegetation. Against the previous years, the improvement in farming was even lower than average since farms’ money income increased only slightly, less than usual at this time of year (due to persisting unfavourable conditions on agricultural markets). Farmers expect a further improvement in agriculture in the 4th quarter.
