Abstract

After the improvement in the 3rd quarter of 2023, the 4th quarter brought about a decline in farming. The decrease was due to seasonal factors, which were counteracted by cyclical ones, and, therefore, the fall was much shallower than usual. The agriculture confidence index (IRGAGR) quarterly decreased by 0.7 pts to -22.3 pts. It is still below the respective year 2022 figure (by 1.5 pts).
Financial situation of farmers improved. They raised spendings on fertilizers, fodder, plant protection products and investments in machinery and equipment. Farmers’ propensity to take loans increased substantially. The key finding of the survey is that their confidence seems to have been sustainably growing, however, no significant improvement in agriculture should be expected to come very soon as negative seasonal factors are going to remain in force in the next quarter.
