Abstract

In the 2nd quarter of 2015 business situation of Polish farming homesteads improved. The IRG SGH agricultural confidence indicator (IRGAGR) increased by 4 pts, from -14 pts to -10 pts, and returned to the figure of the 4th quarter, 2014. The increase of the indicator was due to the rise of both the smoothed money income indicator (by 14.6 pts) and the confidence indicator (by 3.6 pts). The recovery in agriculture is of seasonal nature, as indicated by yearly changes of IRGAGR and its components. The former was 5.5 pts down from the April 2014 value, and the smoothed money income indicator and the confidence indicator were lower than one year earlier by, respectively, 7.6 and 1.4 pts. Negative cyclical factors that have been observed for several quarters clearly impede the agricultural production growth. This tendency is expected to continue as farmers anticipate their finances to be tighter and ramp down spending on production inputs. (fragment of text)
