Abstract

In the 2nd quarter of 2015 the IRG SGH banking confidence indicator (IRGBAN) decreased from 17,4 pts to -17,7 pts. The decrease was mainly caused by a fall in the balances of the result on banking activity and profits. The third component of the indicator - the balance of employment contributed to the decrease to a lesser degree. This makes a strong increase in the indicator's volatility in the last quarters. There are however some bright spots in the condition of the banking sector. First of all, the quality of liabilities stabilized and there is no potential threat from it to banks' profits. Second, clients show a growing interest in banking services. Yet, according to the respondents from the sector, banks still face some major issues. One of the most significant is insufficient demand for banking services. The second one is associated with an increasing impact of legal barriers to banking activity. (original abstract)
