Abstract
In the 1st quarter of 2016 the IRG SGH barometer (BARIRG) amounted to -10.8 pts. It quarterly decreased by 2.6 pts, but was higher than one year earlier by 6 pts. Due to the decline the indicator fell down below the long-term average which equals to -9.9 pts. The results show economic slowdown which is typical at this time of a year. In comparison with the 1st quarter of 2015 business situation improved. The barometer is nearly 3 pts up from the average figure for the first quarters of the last 17 years. Such a high yearly increase of BARIRG was recorded in July 2014 for the last time. Summing up, the results should be interpreted as a sign of positive changes in the economy, which, however, are not common to all areas under the study. (original abstract)
