Abstract

In the 1st quarter of 2016 the construction confidence indicator (CCI) decreased by 1.8 pts. It amounts to -15.6 pts and is 3.9 pts up from the 1st quarter 2015 figure. Despite unfavorable season for the industry, relatively good evaluations of current situation resulted in maintaining an increasing trend of the indicator, and the trend value is close to the long-term average (over the period of 1994-2015). The balances of production, total and export orders, employment, investments, as well as general economic situation and situation in the construction industry are higher than in all the first quarters of the recent seven years. Prices are still on the decrease, however, the declining trend is expected to cease soon. In general, construction firms are modestly optimistic about the nearest future. They expect the main economic indicators of their activity to rise, barriers to doing business to diminish, and the only thing that concerns construction companies is a wider unease about how general economic conditions in the country and the industry will develop in the next quarter.
