Abstract
In the 1st quarter of 2016 sentiments of Polish households improved. The IRG SGH consumer confidence indicator (IRGKGD) increased by 5.1 pts. All its components grew. The greatest contribution to the rise in IRGKGD was made by an increase in the balance of the probability to save and a reduction in the balance of the fears of unemployment. A significant contribution was also made by an increase of the balance of financial situation expected in the next 12 months. The indicator adjusted of short-term fluctuations shows a clear upward trend. This makes one expect households consumption to grow. The majority of the survey balances increased. They either hit record highs or broke the peaks recorded before the global crisis of 2008-2009. Good assessments of households financial situation resulted in a rise in the propensity to save and increase purchases of major consumer durables, incl. cars. (original abstract)
