Abstract
In the 1st quarter of 2016 the IRG SGH banking confidence indicator (IRGBAN) increased from -19,3 pts to 12,2 pts. The increase was mainly due to a rise in the balances of the result on banking activity and of profits. This makes a sharp growth in the indicator's volatility in the last quarters. According to the respondents from the sector, banks now face some very serious issues. The most significant ones are the new tax imposed on assets and proposed law that charges banks with the costs of FX mortgage loans conversion to PLN. Both factors combined may seriously diminish banks' profits. This makes banks tend to pessimistically assess their business prospects. (original abstract)
