Abstract

In the 3rd quarter of 2016 the IRG SGH barometer (BARIRG) amounted to -3.9 pts. It was 1.2 pts down from the last quarter figure, but considerably higher than one year earlier (by 5.6 pts). Usually, the third-quarter figures are negative and higher than the second-quarter ones. This time the rule does not hold. The long-term average slightly increased and equals to -9.7 pts now. However, since the beginning of the year the economy has been on a downward trend, mainly due to contraction in manufacturing, construction and internal trade, the industries that highly contribute to GDP. It is hard to see any positive sign of recovery over the next months as both firms and consumers are pessimistic, and seasonal slowdown is about to come. (fragment of text)
