Abstract

In the 3rd quarter of 2016 business situation in the trade sector deteriorated in comparison with the previous quarter. The IRG SGH trade confidence indicator (IRGTRD) quarterly decreased by 3.8 pts to +2.1 pts. It is however 0.8 pts up from the respective 2015 figure, and higher than the third quarters' average over the last ten years, which amounts to +0.1 pts. The changes of IRGTRD varied depending on the business profile of trading companies. A decrease in IRGTRD was recorded for trade of food and beverages articles, household appliances and articles. The highest indicator was recorded for trade of household appliances and articles, and textiles and clothing. Although the indicator declined (when compared to the last quarter), as well as the balances of the change in firms' general and financial situation and domestic purchases, firms are optimistic, and assess their economic standing as good. However, they expect it to worsen over the next 6 months. (original abstract)
