Abstract

In the 1st quarter of 2017 business situation in the manufacturing industry improved. The improvement is not typical for that time of a year, as usually the betterment, caused by favorable seasonal factors, comes up in the 2nd quarter. Clearly, the rise in uncertainty that has been noticed for recent years resulted in a breakdown of the well-established pattern of seasonality changes. Though business activity is expanding its high volatility still holds firm, and the industrial confidence indicator (ICI), as well as the majority of the balances, remain negative. In general, manufacturers are optimistic their future business prospects, and further improvement is expected to follow in the 2nd quarter of 2017. (fragment of text)
