Abstract

In the 2nd quarter of 2017 economic situation of Polish farms improved once again. The IRG SGH agricultural confidence indicator (IRGAGR) increased by 4.7 pts, from -5.3 pts to -0.6 pts. The increase was mainly due to a rise in farmers' money income (the smoothed money income indicator, one of the components of IRGAGR, grew by 5.6 pts, from -11.7 pts to -6.1 pts), and, to a lesser degree, to an increase in farmers' sentiments (the confidence indicator, the second component of IRGAGR, is now 3.1 pts up from the last quarter figure). The general indicator and its components are higher than one year ago by, respectively: 13.4, 13.1 and 13.9 pts. IRGAGR is about to break through the zero-point line which has been crossed only four times in the history of the survey, and the confidence indicator took the second highest value in the time series. It might be said that euphoria spread among farmers. If this is accompanied with the expected seasonal increase in farmers' income, next survey results shall surge to a record high.(original abstract)
