Abstract

In April, 2017 the sentiments of the Polish households significantly improved significantly for the third time in a row. The IRG SGH consumer confidence indicator (IRGKGD) increased by 8.1 pts (ca. 3.0 pts in each of the last two quarters). All the components of the indicator grew. The greatest contribution to the rise of IRGKGD was made by an increase in the balance of expected general economic situation and a drop in the balance of fears of being unemployed in the future. The households also better assess their own financial situation. The higher sentiments may contribute to an increase in private consumption. Indeed, it was the case in the middle of 2016 when the growth rate of private consumption reached 4% y/y. Similarly, a high rise in households' consumption shall be expected to come in Q1 and Q2 too.(original abstract)
