Abstract

The passing year has seen a continuation of high volatility of business tendency in the manufacturing industry. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) and all the balances changed without any correspondence with the seasonal pattern observed earlier. They were going through the ups and downs, and the 4th quarter was no exception. In October the indicator declined by 1.1 pts, from 3.2 pts to 2.1 pts, and in November it increased by 0.7 pts to 2.8 pts. The rise of the indicator in November happened for the second time in the history of the survey (the first one was recorded in 2012). In total, ICI lost 1.6 pts (in comparison with August), but is now 13.3 pts up from the respective last year figure. Production, total and export orders, selling prices and capacity utilization increased, and firms' financial standing and their opinions about general economic situation in the country improved. Manufacturers are, however, pessimistic about their business prospects in the next months. Seasonal slowdown in manufacturing is about to come.(original abstract)
