Abstract

In the 3rd quarter of 2018 the declining tendency in the manufacturing industry, manifested by the downturn of the cyclical component of the industrial confidence indicator (ICI), strengthened. The confidence indicator and the balances decreased, both on the quarterly and annual bases. In August, 2018 ICI is 4.1 pts down from the May figure, and by 5.8 pts lower than in August, 2017. The raw values of the indicator are now much the same as its long-term average. Expectations of manufacturing firms are very hazy, optimism is mixed with pessimism. No recovery should be expected over the next months.(original abstract)
