Abstract

In the 1st quarter of 2019 business situation in the manufacturing industry improved. Since the beginning of the year the industrial confidence indicator (ICI) and the main survey balances have been increasing to the levels higher than recorded in November, 2018. Clearly, positive seasonal factors have shown up earlier than usual, possibly signaling recovery coming in soon. The confidence indicator is now 1.5 pts up from the respective 2018 figure. This might presage ceasing the impact of negative cyclical factors and the declining tendency which have been both observed for the recent six quarters.(original abstract)
