Abstract

In the 4th quarter of 2019 situation in the Polish agriculture deteriorated (after two quarters of improvement). The agricultural confidence indicator (IRGAGR) dropped by 2.9 pts to -1.9 pts, due to lower than expected farmers' income. The smoothed money income indicator, one of the two components of IRGAGR, declined by 4.3 pts to -7.1 pts. On the other hand, farmers' confidence did not change. The confidence indicator, the second component of IRGAGR, grew by 0.1 pts only (to 8.6 pts). Agricultural activity returned to its long-term average rate of growth. The slowdown is not severe, but it looks it will last longer as the upcoming quarter is usually a period of contraction in agricultural production, and farmers are rather pessimistic about their future profits.(original abstract)
