Abstract

The manufacturing sector is stagnating. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) did not change in the 4th quarter. It is -10.4 pts now, 4.0 pts down from the respective 2018 figure, and by nearly 10 pts lower than the long-term average. Negative cyclical and seasonal factors overlapped and suppressed manufacturing activity. Producers are pessimistic about their business prospects -they expect production, orders and employment to decline, and their financial standing and general economic situation in the country to worsen.(original abstract)
