Abstract
After the turbulent end of 2020 for the manufacturing activity the 1st quarter of 2021 sparked with signs of recovery. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI), as well as the survey balances, have been on the steady rise, and the cyclical component of most of them noted an upturn. Since December the indicator has grown by 5.8 pts to -2.2 pts, and is now higher than one year ago by 26.2 pts. The high annual increase of ICI is, however, primarily due to the so-called "base effect". Manufacturers are rather modest about their future business prospects.(original abstract)
