Abstract

In the 1st quarter of 2021 the IRG SGH construction confidence indicator (CCI) increased by 11.4 pts to -12.8 pts. It is however 1.8 pts down from the respective year 2020 figure. The results of the survey in all respects are much better than the previous ones. They are also inconsistent with the seasonality pattern, as usually the first quarter of a year brings about a slowdown in the construction industry. It is the COVID-19 crisis that disturbed the seasonality rhythm. The improvement in the industry is a kind of détente that is following the second wave of the pandemic, which made some parts of the economy close down and augmented the general recession in autumn of 2020.(original abstract)
