Abstract

In March, 2021 manufacturing activity kept the uptrend that began in the last spring, however, it looks like losing its momentum. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI)increased by only 0.6 pts to -2.2 pts, and is now higher than one year earlier by 26.2 pts. The high increase of the indicator on the annual basis is the so-called base effect, as in March, 2020 ICI recorded one of the lowest figur es ever. Manufacturers reported an increase in production, total and export orders, and employment. Selling prices and finished goods inventories continued to grow, and financial situation of firms improved. On the other hand, firms assessed general economic situation in Poland worse than in February, the majority of the balances remained negative, and manufacturers' expectations concerning the prospects of the economy and their own businesses diminished.(original abstract)
