Abstract
Smart innovations that fit in with the National Smart Specializations are the future of the IT industry. This paper aims to define the role of dynamic managerial capabilities in shaping smart innovation in IT companies. The survey was conducted among the top management of 334 companies. The results show the mediating role of managerial cognition in the relationships between managerial social capital and smart innovations (disruptive innovations and hybrid innovations). It turned out that the knowledge and resources obtained by top management from external sources are necessary to create smart innovations. They will be transformed into such innovations only with correct reception, correct interpretation and proper reaction to signals from the external environment.
