Abstract

In November manufacturing activity slightly increased. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) grewby 0.6 pts, to -16.2 pts, and is now 4.6 pts lower than one year earlier. The increase in ICI (by 2.2 pts) was recorded for private firms only. The change of the indicator for public enterprises is -14.8 pts. Production, total orders and employment are on the decline. Average costs and selling prices rose. Manufacturers reported a drop in finished goods inventories and a deterioration of their financial situation. On the other hand, export orders and export production, as well as its competitiveness and relative benefits from export production increased. The surveyed firms' general assessment of economic situation in Poland worsened. The balance of opinions diminished by almost 10 pts to -68.2 pts, which is close to the June figure. Pessimism of manufacturing producers has been steadily accreting since September. The coming months are expected to bring about a decline in the main indicators of manufacturing activity.(original abstract)
