Abstract

Passive equity investing is nowadays identified with investing in a portfolio reflecting the variable portfolio of the stock market index. Previously, it was understood differently, as the application of the equity “buy and hold” strategy. The article compares the results of the application of these two passive investment strategies. The underlying stock portfolio was the WIG20 portfolio, and the hypothetical investment lasted from late 2010 until the end of 2018. In this period the strategy of “buying and holding” stocks from the WIG20 portfolio was better than the strategy of adjusting the portfolio to the variable WIG20 portfolio.
