Publishing ethics
Editorial Board of Kwartalnik Nauk o Przedsiębiorstwie strives to maintain the highest international ethical standards in the area of publication of scientific texts, therefore it allows only texts of scientific articles and reviews characterized by originality and scientific-research significance of both the content, ideas, research results, as well as theoretical and practical conclusions contained therein. A necessary but insufficient condition for the adoption of a text for publication is its preparation in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Therefore, please read the following ethical principles of the publication and adhere strictly to them in the process of developing the texts you plan to submit to the Editorial Board of the Quarterly and sign A statement on compliance with the ethics of scientific publications.
Conducting research and presenting results
The scientific texts published in the Quarterly should be a manifestation of original scientific research work, which is part of the process of development of theories and research in the field of social sciences from the area of economy and finance or management and quality science, and in the case of interdisciplinary work, also other scientific disciplines. It is recommended that the process of their preparation should be preceded each time by a detailed query of previously published scientific and theoretical works in the scope related to the content of the publication being prepared, constituting the basis for justifying the theoretical, practical or scientific-research significance of undertaking a given research topic.
Scientific texts should be characterized by the originality of the issues under consideration, the comprehensiveness of their approach, manifested by the proper placement of the research problem under consideration in the context of the corresponding scientific disciplines and the objectivity of the content.
Own research results, theoretical considerations and conclusions or practical recommendations contained in the proposed scientific texts should be developed in accordance with the principle of making references and comparisons to other theoretical works, results of research carried out in a given research area or recommendations and conclusions included in the content of previous publications and presented in sufficient detail to enable further scientific discussion on the given topic.
Scientific research should be carried out using the source data sets best suited to the research objectives, including, above all, (as far as possible) data with the highest degree of timeliness, reliability and accuracy. The data may be collected by the authors of the publications or come from other sources, but they should be available to the authors of the publications under consideration. In selected cases the authors may be asked by the Editor-in-Chief of the Quarterly to provide a full set of source data used for the implementation and achievement of the results of the authors’ own research, the results of which are presented in the text sent for publication. This applies not only to the duration of the editorial process, but also to the period of 5 years after the publication of the article using the aforementioned data in the Quarterly.
Originality and reliability of scientific texts
The Editorial Board of the Quarterly define that the author of the publication is every person who has a significant contribution to the development of the purpose, selection of methodology and implementation of the scientific research, the results of which are presented in its content, provided that they participate in the development of the text of the publication. Other persons (taking part in the indicated activities) should be included in the acknowledgements included in the text of the publication after its review and previously disclosed to the Editorial Board at the beginning of the editorial process.
Authors should send for publication only the original texts of scientific articles or reviews proposed for publication. The basis for their elaboration should be the results of diligently conducted scientific research or theoretical deliberations conducted with the use of research methodology of social sciences that is best suited to the needs of the objectives pursued and the research problems posed. The publication of texts containing a broad discussion of the results of the same research more than once should be avoided, and each subsequent reference to them should indicate the source of their original publication.
Authors of scientific texts should ensure that their own scientific and research contributions and theoretical and practical recommendations can be clearly distinguished from the scientific or publication work they have discussed or referred to, including in particular work based on research other than that which forms the basis of the text of their publication. Any attempts to falsify research results and other types of research or scientific unreliability, including above all plagiarism, are considered highly unethical and unacceptable by the Editorial Board of the Quarterly. This applies both to cases of attributing the authorship of someone else's scientific studies or research conducted by other people, as well as copying and paraphrasing someone else's research results or theoretical or practical findings without indicating their authors and publication dates.
Any reference to existing theories, thoughts or research results of others, e.g., for the purpose of making comparisons, which are cited in the texts proposed for publication must be clearly indicated in the content of the publication in a manner consistent with the requirements of the section: Guidelines for authors.
The Editorial Board of the Quarterly consider the phenomena of ghostwriting and guest authorship as a sign of a lack of scientific reliability and a violation of ethical principles of the publication process, where:
- The phenomenon of ghostwriting occurs when someone has made a significant contribution to the creation of a scientific text or to the conduct of research or considerations underlying its elaboration, but his or her participation, as one of the authors, has not been disclosed or mentioned and his or her actual role in the acknowledgements included in the content of the publication is not discussed;
- The phenomenon of guest authorship takes place when the participation of the author is negligible or has not occurred at all, and yet he is indicated as the co-author or author of the publication under consideration.
Texts submitted to the Quarterly are checked before publication by means of an anti-plagiarism system, additionally supported by detailed verification by reviewers of the publication.
The Editorial Board of the Quarterly requires the determination of the percentage contribution of individual authors to the creation of co-authors' publications and signing: An author contribution statement.
Multiplication of a publication, i.e., simultaneous submission of the same scientific text by the author(s) to several scientific editorial offices, including the journals, is regarded by the Editorial Board of the Quarterly as unethical behavior and is the reason why the publishing process cannot be continued. This also applies to attempts to present for publication a text already published or the same or significantly comparable text in different languages in two or more editorial offices without informing them about this fact and obtaining their approval.
The published scientific texts may not infringe the copyrights of third parties – within the meaning of the Act of 4th February 1994 on Copyright and Related Rights (Journal of Laws of 1994, no. 24, item 83, as amended).
Sources of funding the conducted research
The Editorial Board requires disclosure of all author's scientific affiliations and sources of research funding, the results of which are reflected in the content of the publications under consideration, as well as information on other types of support for their implementation, in order to limit or avoid the effects of potential conflicts of interest. This information is not disclosed during the review process of the text concerned.
Objectivity of assessment and qualification of texts sent for publication
The evaluation of the texts of scientific articles and reviews published in the Quarterly, which is carried out by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, is objective in nature and is confirmed by arguments of substantive, ethical and legal nature. A special role is played here by scientific reviews, which significantly support decisions concerning the approval of an article for publication.
Decisions on the authorization of individual scientific texts in each case are the effect of:
- objective evaluation of their content, carried out after consultation with opinions obtained in the form of independent scientific reviews;
- assessment of their thematic compliance with the profile and expected publication capacity and editorial requirements of the Quarterly;
- evaluation of compliance of the content of planned publications and the manner of their preparation with the principles of publication ethics included in this study and with the regulations of common law.
A decision on the adoption of a text for publication may be subject to consultation of the Editor-in-Chief with other members of the Editorial Board of the Quarterly.
The evaluation and classification of publications for print shall not be influenced by factors such as: gender and age of the author(s), their origin, education, nationality, current or past employment, positions held and functions held, family and social relationships and current or past personal, religious, economic or political views.
Texts not subject to publication will not be used in any way and will not be returned.
Double blind review process
All scientific articles and reviews published in the Quarterly are subject to a process of scientific review, which is carried out by double-blind peer reviewers, appointed to this function and performing their duties in accordance with best practice and the highest international standards for scientific reviews.
In order to obtain objective and independent assessments of the content of texts included in the editorial process, both reviewers' and authors' data are not communicated to both sides of the review process. Situations of reviewing an article by persons affiliated to the same research unit or in some other (known to the Editorial Board) way connected with the authors of the reviewed texts are also excluded.
Reviews of scientific texts are prepared according to a specific template accepted by the Editorial Board of the Quarterly, which additionally reserves the right to make editorial changes in the content of the texts submitted for publication, provided that they do not affect their scientific tone and are agreed with the authors.
Confidentiality rules
Information concerning scientific texts submitted for publication is disclosed by the Editorial Board of the Quarterly only to their reviewers, publishers (SGH Publishing House and its affiliates) and persons directly involved in the publishing process, including members of the Editorial Board.
Reviews of scientific texts are confidential and may be forwarded only to the authors of the publication, members of the Editorial Board and persons designated by the Editorial Board who are directly involved in the publishing process.
The Editorial Board of the Quarterly reserves the right to carry out substantive consultations with persons or entities indicated by the Editor-in-Chief or the Scientific Secretary of the Editorial Board, if it results from substantive or publishing reasons.
The content of the correspondence with the authors of the texts may be made available only to persons directly involved in the publishing process.
Reporting errors in the published text
If the author identifies an error in the published text, it is the author's responsibility to inform Editorial Board of the Quarterly of this fact immediately and effectively, as well as to cooperate with him/her to make the necessary corrections.
The author of the text is also obliged to correct, as a matter of urgency, any errors identified by the Editorial Board of the Quarterly, or to provide, at their request, proof of the correctness of the statements presented in the submitted or already published text.
Ethical publication behavior
In the event of alleged or proven scientific malpractice, including in particular a suspicion of publication dishonesty or plagiarism, the Publisher of the Quarterly, in close cooperation with the Editorial Board and Collegium of the Quarterly, shall take all possible measures to clarify the situation and change the content of a given article. These measures will consist in the rapid publication of an errata and, in the most serious cases of scientific unreliability, in withdrawing the article from publication.
