Governance in Writings on Management Sciences

The goal of the paper is to review the semantic scope of the notion of governance in management sci- ences. This is why the analysis focuses on contextual application of the term in papers on management with the highest citation index published in the “Management” category in journals listed in the JCR. The analysis demonstrated that governance is often understood as corporate governance and defined as exercising supervision over decision makers in an organisation. However, this is not the only meaning. The term can also be understood as: ‘coordination of operations within an organisation', ‘resource alloca- tion,' ‘decision making methodology in a project' or ‘engaging stakeholder groups in business processes'.
