Abstract

The paper examines the evolution of agile in project management based on the concept of Charlie Rudd’s ‘Three Waves of Agile’. According to Rudd’s definition, each wave has got its beginning when people start organising themselves around innovative practices with a view to resolve a particular problem and when they gain in importance, a new community of practitioners emerges. Over time, when the community assimilates differences, views converge, finally consensus forms and the wave is complete. Evolution of agility can be divided into three waves covering different fields of interest, as well as unique management and application domains. They help us distinguish three clear stages of Agile: ‘Agile Teams’, ‘Agile at Scale,’ and ‘Business Agility’. The paper systemises these areas indicating occurrences from recent two years that confirm the hypothesis about the end of the first wave and may testify to the approaching end of the second wave.
