Social innovations for developing a circular economy of packaging
Main Article Content
Abstract
The strong need to reorient the economy from a linear to a resource-efficient circular economy is communicated by the scientific community of different disciplines as well as by political decision-makers and international organizations. The aim of the article is to present social innovations of the greatest importance for developing a circular economy of bio-packaging. The conclusions are based on the results of research conducted with the participation of the authors of the article within the international project titled “New Frontiers in Social Innovation Research: Social Innovation Management for BIOPlastics” (2020–2023). The development of social innovations in the face of identified challenges on the bio-packaging market is clearly aimed at ensuring their circularity. The social innovations of the highest importance for closing the bio-packaging cycle in the economy are the national strategy for the development of the compostable packaging market, the industry organization, and the B2B technology platform. The involvement of stakeholders in the development and implementation of social innovations is a key success factor leading to synergy in various areas of their activities in the public and private sectors for the benefit of circular economy.
