The article analyzes the impact of risk and uncertainty on the implementation of international academic projects, focusing on the experiences of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Survey research and qualitative interviews conducted among academic and administrative staff revealed the complexity of such initiatives, resulting from cultural differences, language barriers, diverse management systems, and changing requirements of partners and funding institutions. The study identified limited organizational preparedness for crisis situations, insufficient risk planning, and low trust in the effectiveness of existing management tools. Interpersonal skills, informal relationships, and social capital play a key role in ensuring project effectiveness. The authors recommend strengthening strategic planning, managing cultural dynamics, working in uncertain conditions, and implementing dedicated solutions for the university.
