Abstract

In the subject literature the concepts of corporate social responsibility and responsible management are often used interchangeably, and sustainable development is used at the macro level. The aim of the article is to systematize the concepts and determine their mutual dependency. Corporate social responsibility is defined as a concept according to which “companies voluntarily include social and environmental issues in their business operations and interaction with their stakeholders” [Crowther, Jatana, 2005]. The response of businesses to the challenges of sustainable development, and simultaneously the basis for achieving its goals, is the model of social responsibility. It has been demonstrated that effective implementation of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development should be conducted according to the concept of responsible management. At the same time, the necessary condition of their implementation is engagement on the side of enterprises. The discussion shows the perception of the sustainable development and social responsibility concepts by enterprises as key to long-term development of societies.
