Currently binding EU regulations on road transport have demonstrated that Polish transportation companies have correctly read these regulations and understood their substance aimed at achieving free movement of goods and persons in common and competitive market. This is why Polish transportation companies enjoy a strong position in the EU freight market. Nevertheless, we need to admit that some threats have been emerging with respect to the so far existing operational rules of the market. This paper discusses theoretical considerations relating to the traits of a competitive market, the monitoring of road transport by ITS [Road Transport Inspectorate] Warsaw, as well as the condition of Polish freight transport.
