Sharing economy and its importance for cooperation among organisations is a vital and pertinent re- search area. In particular, it is interesting to recognise the relevance of the sharing economy for cooperation in the tourist industry as it may inhibit or restrict the growth of the sector. The paper brings forward the state-of-the-art knowledge about the importance of the sharing economy in two aspects. First, empirical studies were carried out in the tourist industry not high-tech industries which so far have been attracting most of relational research. Second, our studies focus on negative implications of the sharing economy, such as the restriction of growth of the tourist industry and, further, on its impact on intra-industry cooperation, the aspect, which previously was not considered from this angle. Studies were conducted on a sample of 368 tourist operators. Results of regression modelling (mul- tiple as well as structural) suggest that the restriction of growth of the tourist industry - stemming from the promotion of the sharing economy - significantly tightens inter-organisational cooperation within the industry.
